Garud to Back-Up

Talented galloper Garud has pulled up well from his “excellent” Ipswich Cup run last Saturday and looks nicely primed to back up in this weekend’s Tattersall’s Cup at Eagle Farm.

Better suited at the bigger more spacious track, Garud has drawn barrier nine in the 2200m event with Michael Cahill to again take the ride.

Drawing awkwardly on the tighter Ipswich circuit, Garud was forced back a bit further than he likes but he caught the eye with a strong finish for fifth beaten only 1½ lengths.

“It was a terrific run and he came through it well,” reported Ballymore’s Anthony Feroce.

“He has had a good week and it does not look an overly strong race. Hopefully he has a bit more luck this time and he should prove hard to beat.”

Whilst Garud is our only Saturday runner we saddle up a couple of chances in the same race at Donald on Thursday – Milkwood and Miz Sinatra both contesting the City Of Ballarat Handicap.

To jump from barrier eight with Luke Nolen aboard, Milkwood has been running well without winning over longer trips and a freshen-up back to the mile should, said Feroce, suit the daughter of Dylan Thomas.

“She should run well,” he said.

Miz Sinatra meanwhile rises in distance, her recent good runs at around 1400m suggesting that a bit of extra ground will suit.

“She has won at 1600m in New Zealand and she has trained on well since her last good run at Sandown. She is also a very good chance.”
