Winners galore!

Ballymore Stables has been in fine form of late with Walloon Region's victory at Seymour on April 14 kicking off a great run that saw us cheer home five winners in six days.

Overcoming trouble in running, the lightly raced and promising Walloon Region broke his maiden in impressive style at only his fourth start.

Travelling nicely mid-field for Jamie Mott, the three-year-old found himself behind a wall of horses straightening - not getting clear until after the 200m mark.

But once a split appeared, the bay quickly took it before racing away to a soft 1½ length victory.

Raced by R & C Legh Racing Pty Ltd (Manager Rupert Legh), Gurners Bloodstock Co (Manager Andrew Ramsden), Paul Woods, Robert Hodge, Cazjohn Racing (Manager John Edwards), Danny Trainor, David Gorton, Christopher & Dymphna Muir and the ARK Syndicate, Walloon Region was a $65,000 purchase for Paul Moroney at the 2011 Melbourne Premier Sale.

A half-brother by Danzero to the stake placed Schiffer, Walloon Region is out of a half-sister to the NZ Group One winner Sharvasti and the Group Three winners Bhandara and Shastri.

A couple of days later Spectral Black was in winning form, doing a good job to salute at Kyneton at only his second run this campaign.

Forced to the lead a fair way out, the tough and talented four-year-old gave a nice kick early in the straight and just kept going - his margin a soft 3/4 length.

A two times winner (and two times runner up) from just five starts, Spectral Black was well rated by Darren Gauci for owners Shergar Thoroughbreds (Managers Brendan Tohill & Dr Susan Taylor), Shergar Doctors (Manager Dr Susan Taylor), Dr Catherine Duncan, Brendan Blake, The Tango Syndicate (Manager Megan Anderson), Richard Mitchell, Mary-Louise Santa and Angela Pippos.

A son of the VRC Sires' Produce Stakes winner Spectatorial, he is out of the winning Pentire mare Indigo Moon.

Another lightly raced galloper in About Square was our third winner for the week, the three-year-old son of the late Refuse To Bend finding the line well in a Sale sprint.

Having his first run since the spring, the bay looks set for a nice campaign - back in the form that saw him stakes placed as a two-year-old in New Zealand.

Raced by R & C Legh Racing Pty Ltd (Manager Rupert Legh), R Smith, Dr J T Kennedy, Gurners Bloodstock Co (Manager Andrew Ramsden), Barry & Deidre Neville-White, Noel Griffin, Joe Bono, Vincent Morabito and the SHH Syndicate, About Square was a bargain $NZ20,000 for Paul who picked him up at the 2011 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale.

April 20 saw the stable celebrate a Bendigo double with Rhythm To Spare and Epic Choice in great form.

Impressing at his Australian debut having run two nice races in New Zealand, Rhythm To Spare did not enjoy the best of runs in the 1300m maiden - sitting wide on pace from an outside gate.

Looking to be in trouble when Stradale kicked at the 200m, Rhythm To Spare showed plenty of grit in knuckling down - wearing down the leader before racing away to a strong one length victory.

Raced by R & C Legh Racing (Manager Rupert Legh), GG Syndicate Ltd (Manager Gerard Peterson), John O'Neill, Carty Racing (Manager Brett Carty), Andrew Dunne and Ballymore Stables (Aust) Pty Ltd, Rhythm To Spare was a NZ $100,000 Karaka purchase for Paul.

A half-brother to the handy New Zealander Stanica Star, he is a son of Pins and the Group One Avondale Cup runner-up Stanica.

Just as impressive at Bendigo was Epic Choice who, after drifting well back from a wide gate, looked to be no chance coming to the turn in the 1600m ratings handicap.

But, patiently ridden by Jason Lyon, he was able to sneak up along the fence - poking his nose in front at the 100m and getting clear to salute by two lengths.

Recording the second win from his last three starts, the well related son of Dylan Thomas gave owners R & C Legh Racing Pty Ltd (Manager Rupert Legh), Gurners Bloodstock Co (Manager Andrew Ramsden), Krauser Racing (Manager Manfred Krauser), Peter Barnett, Giuseppe Pulitano, Christopher Pidcock, Lisa Barker and Teeley Assets Ltd (Manager Iris O'Farrell) plenty of reasons to smile.

A $370,000 Easter graduate who impressed Paul from the first time he saw him, Epic Choice is out of the Giant's Causeway mare Unspoken Choice - a half-sister to champion stallion Redoute's Choice.
