Busy Ballymore

A busy few days for Ballymore kicks off at Pakenham on Friday - debutant Malanco taking her place in the third event, a fillies & mares maiden.

As a $15,000 Classic Sale purchase for Paul, the daughter of Danzero was a great buy - especially as since joining our stable her pedigree has been improved by the deeds of her Gr.3 winning close relation Flying Snitzel.

"She is a nice filly out of a mainly staying family," Michael Moroney said, adding that he has a bit of time for the three-year-old.

"She may still be a preparation away but she is a nice type of filly."

Friday evening sees us saddle up two runners at the Moonee Valley meeting - Chilean Plume and Renegade Arrow.

Lining up in the second event, a 1200m maiden, Chilean Plume is having his first run since early July.

"He really deserves to win a maiden," said Moroney, noting that the son of Pins has been three times runner-up from his five starts to date.

"He has trialled well and drawn nicely so he should prove hard to beat."

Renegade Arrow (race seven) should also run nicely, the five-year-old dropping class having contested a strong race at Flemington during Cup Week.

"He has a decent barrier draw (5) which should help him," said Moroney, adding that his main concern is if Melbourne's hot spell is followed by a wet one.

"He doesn't want much sting out - but providing he gets the right footing he should run a really good race."

We also take two horses, Mrs Hadlee and Muirfield (pictured), to Saturday's Caulfield meeting and both look to have a nice chance.

Whilst finishing out of the placings in a small field at her most recent outing at Sale, Mrs Hadlee is a horse we've always had time for and we are hoping a step up in distance will suit the daughter of Hat Trick.

"She showed a lot of speed early," Moroney said, "but she got a bit dour later in her campaign, so we think she is a horse who will appreciate the 1400m."

Not far away at his two runs this time in, Muirfield is another who looks suited up in distance, the talented five-year-old up to 2000m after a fair effort over a mile at Flemington last time out.

"He had a few issues leading into the Flemington run, things didn't go totally right for him. But he strips a long way fitter this time."

"He is a horse we have to tread carefully with as he is not the soundest horse but he is not far off his best at the moment and that is probably enough for him to win a race like this."

Rounding off our weekend we take two runners to the Wodonga meeting - People Get Ready and Zabisco.

Having his first start in the 1200m maiden, People Get Ready - a son of Excellent Art - is, said Moroney, "a really nice, big horse."

Standing tall at 16.2 hands, People Get Ready has been a slow maturer.

"He has taken a lot of practice but he is just now starting to switch on," said Moroney.

Zabisco meanwhile tackles the feature event of the day, the 1590m Wodonga Cup.

Second up, the son of Zabeel was "a bit disappointing" when resuming at Flemington but Moroney was happy with one aspect of that run.

"He had a few gear changes on the suggestion of all the jockeys who've ridden him - Craig Williams and Damien Oliver and others have all said that he tends to overrace and can therefore be hard to ride."

"He was more relaxed with those gear changes and he has come back looking better than ever this campaign so hopefully he can improve second up."

Next week kicks off with Savvy Princess our sole Monday runner, the promising four-year-old contesting the fourth event at Ararat - and there is plenty of confidence about her.

"I think she will win," said Moroney.

"She has drawn a difficult gate (12) but I still think she is the one to beat."
