Three runners for us at Sale today with Battle Sound, New Hampshire and Spanish Idol taking part.

Spanish Idol starts our day in the second race over 1600 metres with in-form jockey Beau Mertens riding and Mike Moroney aiming for a change in tactics.

“I’m happy enough with his work and if we can I’d like to try and be a bit more positive with him and ride him forward,” Mike said.

“Both his starts have been plain but in both of them he was giving away a start from the break so I’m wanting to switch things with him.

“I still think he’s a preparation away and needs to furnish but I do want to be more positive with him and I’m keen to see if this change sharpens him up.

“It’s a strong field for this class but he’s well in himself,” Mike said. “The little bit of cut in the ground will suit him and ideally he can press forward and put himself in the race.

“He can win if he brings his best form but he will have to today.”

New Hampshire will also be ridden by Jordan Childs in race eight over 1400 metres.

“He’s drawn nicely and hopefully he will jump on terms today, last start wasn’t his fault, he’d been stood in the barriers a long time and when the did finally start he was left flat footed and lost any chance he had,” Mike said. 

“He’s as fit as we can get him so it is up to him now.”
