WINNING CHANCES AROUND THE COUNTRY FOR US TODAY

Hang Man, Iridessa and Salt Bay are our Saturday runners and all at different venues.

Hang Man is in Queensland to run in the Lord Mayor’s Cup over 1800m at Eagle Farm with Glen Boss aboard and drawn barrier 10 in the $150,000 Group 3 contest.

Hang Man finished fifth last start in the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap at Doomben but only beaten two lengths and Mike Moroney visited him during the week.

“He had a couple of legitimate excuses last start but I was in Queensland on Tuesday to watch him work and I was very pleased, Moroney said.

“He’s holding his condition well, is nice and I’m happy with him.

“He’s been up a while but from what I saw on Tuesday he’s a happy horse and in good form.

“I’m not too worried about the barrier as he’ll go back anyway but if he brings his A-game I think he will be extremely hard to beat.”

Closer to home and Salt Bay (pictured) makes her Australian debut in race four at Caulfield, the benchmark 84 handicap over 1200m, drawn in barrier two with Fred Kersley in the saddle.

“She’s a little bit out of her grade from what she’s raced against in New Zealand but she’s jumped out nicely and looks terrific so we’re happy to take a chance with her,” Moroney said.

“It’s always difficult to weigh up the form from New Zealand to here but this certainly looks a stronger field than she’d face at the same grade in New Zealand.

“That said, she’s settled in lovely, looks terrific and today should tell us where she fits in. If she runs up to her work at home then I can see her running well at a big price.”

Iridessa travels to Echuca for race four, the benchmark 58 handicap over 2100m with Tayla Childs aboard.

“Tayla got on well with her last start where she finished a solid second here at her first start in Australia and with her claim I think the mare gets into this well,” Moroney said.

“If she flies the gates then she will race forward, she’s taken good improvement from last start and with ordinary luck today I’m expecting her to be hard to beat.”
