We have three runners on Wednesday with Whittington Stone, Johnny Thunder and Rainbow Thief heading to the Hillside course at Sandown.

Whittington Stone is the first to go in race one, the maiden 3YO race over 1300m with Jake Noonan riding from barrier two.

Last time out Whittington Stone led for a long way before finishing third over 1209m at Geelong and Mike Moroney said is a fitter horse now.

“We’ve struck what looks a strong race but I’m happy with our horse,” Moroney said.

“He’s done well since the last start and he’s drawn well so it’s a good chance to see where we are at with him.

“It’s a stronger race but from the draw I’d say he’ll put himself on pace and then take his chance.”

Johnny Thunder (pictured) debuts in race two, the Super VOBIS 2yo race over 1000m with Michael Dee riding from barrier four after scratchings.

“It’s a handy enough looking field on paper of those that have raced,” Moroney said.

“What I can say is that our horse is a smart colt, he has good gate speed and the way he has trained and in his jumpouts I’m expecting him to run well.

“From where he’s drawn I can see him putting himself on speed and then it will be a case of how he copes but he has shown us a bit at home.

We have to wait around then for Rainbow Thief in the last race, the benchmark 70 handicap over 1500m with Dwayne Dunn back on board from barrier six.

At his last start Rainbow Thief finished second over 1400m at Pakenham.

“It’s a good field without a doubt but our horse is certainly up to being there,” Moroney said.

“We’ve added a norton bit to him for race day and we will leave the ear muffs on him for the race

“It’s a Saturday class field but if he can learnt to relax than I do think he will be hard to beat.”
