CLASSIC TRIAL RUNNER AT GEELONG

Two runners for us on Geelong Cup day including Quail Hollow in the Geelong Classic.

The $140,000 Geelong Classic is race eight over 2200m with James Winks aboard Quail Hollow and drawn in barrier 12.

Quail Hollow (pictured) made up ground in the home straight last time out when runner-up at Bairnsdale over 1600m and although today is only his third start Mike Moroney feels the son of Toronado has a promising future.

“The draw is awkward but we’ll have the discussion with James on how we think he should ridden,” Moroney said.

“It looks an even sort of race with no real obvious standout.

“I'm happy with the way our horse has come through his last start, he’s a horse who shapes like he will be better next preparation but he’s a really nice horse that we’ve always had a good opinion of and I’m confident he will run well.”

Chicago Cub is our other runner in race three, the Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1200m with Thomas Stockdale riding and reducing his weight.

The four-year-old finished third at his last start over 1100m at Ballarat and Moroney is expecting another forward showing.

“It looks a nice race for him and he’s down to 57.5kg which will help,” Moroney said.

“I can’t fault the horse, he looks terrific, is training well and I do think he’s a good winning chance.”
