Moroney has high hopes in two countries -(racing and sports14/05/09)

Trainer Mike Moroney is hopeful Sarrera can turn the tables on Pompeii Ruler in Sunday's Group One Singapore Cup at Kranji but his immediate thoughts will be on the Group Three Doomben Roses.

Moroney will saddle up two runners, Princess Pulse and Prix Du Sang, in the 2020-metre feature on Saturday.

Moroney, who won the Group One Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm with Eskimo Queen two years ago, is in Singapore and is trying to find out if he can watch Brisbane races on local television.

"I'm not sure if they cover Brisbane races over here but I'd like to watch the race on television if it's possible," Moroney said.

"Sarrera has travelled over well and is coming along nicely.

"We've had a bit of rain but I wouldn't mind some more to improve our chances.

"I think he'll run a big race but I like our chances against Pompeii Ruler who is the favourite over here for the Singapore Cup."

Sarrera, winner of last year's Group One Doomben Cup, was runner-up to Pompeii Ruler at his last start in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on Anzac Day.

Moroney will send both Prix Du Sang and Princess Pulse into the Group One Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on May 30 after their clash in the Doomben Roses.

Princess Pulse, a Glen Boss mount, has drawn the visitor's gate in barrier 19 while Prix Du Sang jumps from gate two for Craig Williams.

"Before the barrier draw I thought Princess Pulse was the better chance but the barriers have equalled things up more," Moroney said.

Moroney is unsure what tactics Boss will adopt on Princess Pulse from her wide alley after the filly led all the way to win the Group Three Auraria Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on May 2.

"I'm not sure what we'll do from the barrier," he said.

"Her only two wins of her career came when she raced near the lead but she's run some tremendous races coming from behind.

"I think from the draw she'll probably have to go back."

Moroney said both fillies had trained on well since their last starts.

"Prix du Sang is also working well and her good alley is a huge help," he said.

"She won well at the Gold Coast last start and I'm expecting her to improve."

Moroney was surprised to learn Listed Gold Coast Bracelet winner Marveen would miss the Doomben Roses following a nomination mix-up.

Trainer Robert Smerdon will now start Marveen in Saturday's weight-for-age Group Three Lord Mayor's Cup (1615m).

"I thought Marveen was our biggest worry had she started but now La Etoile looks the biggest danger to my pair," Moroney said.

The Roger James-trained La Etoile was a last-start runner-up to Marveen in the Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m).
