Syndrome takes out Wodonga Cup

It was a particularly tough performance by the exciting lightly raced four-year-old Syndrome to win the Wodonga Cup.

 

Doing it tough sitting wide in a fast run race, the eye-catching chestnut looked to be under a bit of pressure approaching the turn but he was able to hit the lead anyway.

 

Having to dig deep over the final stages, Syndrome seemed to enjoy the fight with Berringama and he emerged victorious from it - drawing clear over the final stages to win by a length.

 

A great effort to beat older and more experienced rivals at just his eighth outing and the future looks bright for the son of Danzig stallion Ishiguru.

 

Raced by Richard Pegum, Syndrome was having only his third run this campaign and there is still plenty of scope for improvement.

 

"He is a very nice horse in the making," said Michael Moroney, "and he is only going to get better as he matures."

"I like the way he was able to sit wide and still win - he showed a lot of ticker."
