Brazilian Pulse game third in 1000 Guineas

Whilst not cheering home a winner at Wednesday's 1000 Guineas meeting at Caulfield, the Ballymore team are proud of the game efforts of each of their five runners including up-and-coming filly Brazilian Pulse who was so good running third in the feature event.
Travelling well on pace, and looking to be a great chance at the turn, the bay could not quicken to the best of her ability on the slow going but she never gave in - boxing on strongly for a three length third and increasing her value with a Gr.1 placing.
"She was cruising during the race," said jockey Michael Rodd, "but she just couldn't let down on the wet track. Her effort to hold on for a placing was all heart."
Earlier in the day the promising three-year-old Absolutelyawesome ran a terrific race in the Pura Light Start Plate - at only his second outing finishing on strongly along the rails to finish a close up (long neck by a nose) third behind two more experienced gallopers.
And he did not do too much right!
"Gee he is hard work!" said Glen Boss - "he didn't concentrate at all and he kept hanging in quite badly. It was a good run - he certainly has ability."
In the race after the 1000 Guineas, the Listed CarSales Classic, we were represented by two runners and we nearly stole the race with longshot Our Tigress who ran a terrific race for second.
Travelling well on pace, the four-year-old - who was unlucky to miss out on a run as emergency in the Queensland Oaks earlier in the year - hit the lead a bit too soon in the straight but really fought the race out.
"She travelled a bit keenly early," reported jockey Craig Newitt, "but down the side she dropped the bit and I had to get her going. We probably got to the lead too early but she hit the line really well. I think she'll get further."
Far from disgraced in sixth placing fresh was Platinum Passion who had to do a bit of early work to get to her on pace position from an outside gate.
"There was just a bit too much pressure on for her," said rider Craig Williams. "She kept trying but it was a hot pace."
Williams was also pleased with the effort of our runner in the Betfair Handicap - third placegetter Viking Hero (pictured returning to scale rather muddy!) who was having only his second spring run.
"He hated that going!" he said, "so he did a good job to run third - he is going to be a good horse."
