Divissima put to the staying test

A significant rise in distance could be the key to unlocking the untapped ability of Ballymore’s daughter of Mastercraftsman, Divissima (pictured), after producing a gallant run at Ruakaka a fortnight ago and looks set to reward her patient owners.

After illustrating an abundance of natural speed as a youngster, winning stylishly on debut before being backed into the Karaka Million’s favourite of her year, Divissima always looked on the verge of showing her potential, although various things kept her from getting.

Following a significant growth spurt in her 3YO year, Divissima looks to be a stayer in the making and co-trainer Chad Ormsby is confident of a bold showing tomorrow when she steps up to 2100m for the very first time.

“She’s always been one of the most promising individuals to come through the stables, but she is by no means a straight forward filly,” co-trainer Chad Ormsby said.

“The more mature and older she has got, the more distance she appears to want. But when it all comes down to it, her mind is her biggest hurdle and I don’t think we could have her in better shape going into tomorrow’s race.”

“Trudy (Thornton) appeared to get along with her very well and she got the best out of her, and I’m thrilled to have her back on.”

“The owners and ladies in her deserve a nice win – they have been patient with her and hopefully they will be rewarded tomorrow.”

Divissima lines up in the United Gaming Ltd Rating 65 event over 2100m and has drawn barrier seven in a full field.

The second runner for Ballymore will be last start winner Style Is Eternal who runs a race earlier in the Taumaranui Distracts RSA Inc Rating 65 over 2100m and the country’s leading jockey Matt Cameron reunites with the daughter by Montjeu.

While the young mare jumps in class, the suitable distance in conjunction with a slow track, and a fast tempo, will be the key for her giving the race shake.

“She’s been over racing at her last couple of starts and hopefully the field will run along, which should help her settle,” Ormsby said.

“She can stay all day and if the heavens open up I would like to think she can be competitive.”
