Bancory Bay Digs Deep!

With the filly She Nailed It (carrying 2.5kg less) wanting the lead, Jamie Mott was happy to take the sit and what an exciting race it was as the pair put five lengths on their rivals heading to the turn.

From there it was a great two horse battle, our boy prevailing over the final stages as one of the favourites Rapid Cheval made a late charge.

It was a gutsy effort from Bancory Bay (photo from Racing Photos) who was coming back in distance - winning over 1500m having contested an 1800m race at his previous outing.

"He is a funny horse in that he looks like he wants a trip but once you get to one he doesn't stay," said Mott who was grateful for the late pick-up ride with Jye McNeil incurring an injury at the track work.

"The team have done a good job picking his races, this one was a good one for him," Mott said, "and hopefully the win will give him confidence."

"We were able to be positive from the gate and I knew he had fitness on his side - so I asked him for a good effort down the long straight. He was tough and he held on well."

It was a second win from just nine starts for Bancory Bay who was bred by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and purchased for PR Bloodstock for $360,000 at the 2023 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

A son of the Champion Sire Fastnet Rock, he is out of the Gr.1 Flight Stakes winning I Am Invincible mare Oohood who was beaten by Estijaab in the Golden Slipper Stakes in which Sunlight was third.
