Unlucky with barrier draws - lucky with results?

We have not had much luck with barrier draws this weekend with the majority of our runners drawing out wide but we will hope for some scratchings to improve our chances a bit!

Kicking off a busy weekend is Girls On Film who contests the opening event at Pukekohe Park on Saturday.

Whilst the well related daughter of Pins has barrier 16 to contend with, she is going to be suited by a step up in distance after an encouraging fresh run.

A game second over 1200m on November 9, she looks nicely placed up to 1400 and Chad Ormsby is confident of another honest showing.

"She has improved from that first up run," he said.

A mare who has not always had the best of luck, Girls On Film (whose dam is a half sister to the multiple Gr.1 winner Regal Roller) has however always shown good ability.

Our feature runner for the weekend also races at Pukekohe Park - last start Listed Awapuni Gold Cup winner Savvy Dancer looking to make it two in a row over 2100m when contesting the Gr.2 Counties Cup.

"He has drawn barrier one which we are very happy about," Ormsby said - hoping that Savvy Dancer can continue his good form enroute to a crack at the Wellington and Auckland Cups.

We also take three runners to Sunday's Te Rapa meeting, the first of those being the imported mare Mrs Neat who tackles the Coolmore Australia Handicap over 1600m.

"It is only her second start in New Zealand," Ormsby said, "but we have been happy with her - she is training like she has improved from that first up run."

A handy fifth over 1400m at Tauranga on November 2, Mrs Neat - a daughter of Refuse To Bend - is bound to appreciate a step up to the mile although her very best UK form was over a bit longer still.

A 19,000 guineas Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale purchase by Paul Moroney last year, Mrs Neat boasts a terrific international pedigree - one that has enjoyed Australian success with last season's Champion 2Y0 Pierro.

Attractive chestnut Square Circles debuted with an even eighth over 1400m in late October and we are looking forward to seeing how he can improve up to 1600m on Sunday.

A bargain $15,000 Classic Sale purchase for Paul, Square Circles has shown us good staying ability - "he is potentially a Derby horse," Ormsby said.

The last of our weekend runners is Miz Sinatra who we hope can break through in the 1600m maiden.

"She looks suited stepping up in distance after a very good fresh run," Ormsby said - pointing to Miz Sinatra's encouraging fourth at over 1400m Pukekohe Park late last month.

As the veteran of just four starts, Miz Sinatra still has plenty of upside and we also trained her half sister Shylock's Daughter who improved as she matured - winning seven races including four at metropolitan level in Melbourne.
