Spitfire Lady races away first up

Exciting filly Spitfire Lady could not have been more impressive saluting in easy fashion when resuming at Seymour on Tuesday.

Having her first start since an eye-catching second to subsequent city winner Clinking at her debut in May, the daughter of Hussonet was always travelling well behind the leaders for Nick Hall.

Cruising to the front in the straight, Spitfire Lady quickly put pay to her rivals with a soft 2 1/2 length victory.

"She's a nice horse," Hall enthused.

"She's got good gate speed and she helps herself in every way. She was nice and strong through the line, she has a good turn of foot and she tries hard."

Raced by Rupert & Cheryl Legh Racing, the Ark Synd and Ballymore Stables, Spitfire Lady was a bargain $30,000 purchase at last year's Melbourne Premier Sale.

Bred by Arrowfield Stud and Belford Productions, Spitfire Lady is the fourth foal produced by the lovely mare Galroof who we trained to four victories including the Gr.3 Doomben Classic.

Second in the Queensland Derby at her final outing before going amiss, Galroof was highly regarded at Ballymore and she has been passing her talent onto her foals - her first being the tough Listed winner Pinnacles, her second the stakes placed Husonic and her third our smart Gr.3 Norman Robinson Stakes winner Sabrage (pictured).
