Glorious Goodwood Day

Morphettville plays host to another big raceday on Saturday with Black Caviar lining up for her 21st start in the Gr.1 Goodwood Handicap.

Ballymore are looking forward to being part of the action with three runners - Crimson Lady, Zabisco and Bonnie Mac.

Having enduring a run of bad barriers - drawing out in both the Auraria Stakes and the SA Oaks - promising filly Crimson Lady has drawn better in the Gr.3 Fillies Classic and looks a major player.

At her last couple finishing off in a style that suggests the 2500m will be right up her alley, Crimson Lady will be ridden by Dwayne Dunn.

"She comes off two luckless runs," Michael Moroney said, adding that "she only has to run out the trip to prove hard to beat."

A tough last start winner over 1400m at Caulfield, Zabisco is another horse rising in distance and being a son of Zabeel he should relish the mile of the Gr.3 R.A Lee Stakes.

Moroney, however, is cautious.

"Drawing in might not be ideal for him," Moroney said - "he is a horse who has run his best races in the clear."

"It looks a pretty good race too so he is facing a rise in class - but he is going well and he continues to improve."

Also up in class is Bonnie Mac who will contest the Listed Proud Miss Stakes.

In flying form - successful at each of her last four starts in New Zealand and Melbourne, the promising daughter of Thorn Park "strikes a pretty strong field" but "has trained on well."

We have just the one Melbourne runner on Saturday, imported mare Diyaraka second up over 2000m in the Kevin Dunne Handicap with Craig Newitt to take the ride.

"She is up to a more suitable distance but the further the better for her," Moroney said, adding that any sting out of the ground would enhance her prospects - "the more rain the merrier!"

It's the time of year when we start sending horses up to the Queensland sunshine at Kenamon Belle lines up in an 1800m at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Doing her best work late at Eagle Farm last start, she will appreciate a rise in distance and Moroney is confident.

"She was luckless last time and she should be able to clear her maiden on Saturday."

Back in Victoria we also have two runners at the Kilmore meeting, starting with Savvy Princess in the Bullarook Park Stud Handicap over 1457m.

"We have kept her fresh," Moroney said, noting that the Savabeel filly was inclined to over-race a bit last time out.

"We will let her roll forward this time and she should be able to turn her form around."

Hopefully we will be able to get a running double up with Crime Ofda Century resuming in the next race, the Betfair Handicap over 1207m.

Having his first run since late last year, the Delago Brom gelding races well fresh - kicking off his last campaign with a strong Sale maiden victory.

"He looks nicely placed first up and he has been working well - he should prove hard to beat."

Also resuming is our only Sunday runner, the talented Sophrosyne (pictured) kicking off his campaign in first heat of the Winter Championship Series.

Suited at the 1300m at this stage, the five-year-old has been working well.

"His jump-outs have been terrific and any rain about will suit - he looks a top chance."
