A Flashy night at Moonee Valley

The stable is hoping for a big weekend following on from the exciting victory by up-and-coming three-year-old African Pulse (pictured, photo by Darryl Sherer) at Caulfield on Thursday.

The action kicks off with Flashy Fella contesting the opening event at Moonee Valley on Friday night, the last start winner looking a big chance to continue his good form in the Michelton Wines Handicap.

"We are really happy with him," said Michael Moroney, "and we think he will prove hard to beat,"

"He defeated a smart horse last start (Accrual) and we have always thought he is pretty smart. He should prove hard to beat."

To again be ridden by Lisa Cropp who was aboard Flashy Fella when he dug deep to win at Werribee last start, the attractive son of Thorn Park has drawn nicely in barrier five.

Also a good looking chestnut, St Ives is our other Valley runner, the six-year-old lining up in the seventh race, the Printhouse Group Handicap.

Stepping up to a mile second up, St Ives has improved considerably since his first up run - "he is a long way fitter," Moroney said, "and he has drawn nicely (barrier five for Lisa Cropp) - we will be disappointed if he does show a bit."

No runners for Ballymore on Saturday but we have three nice chances at the Werribee Cup meeting on Sunday including Hiphopopotamus and Mythical in the $140,000 feature.

A little disappointing as favourite at his most recent outing, the six-year-old Hiphopopotamus did have a bit of a gap in between runs but he has progressed nicely since.

"He has drawn well (barrier two for Lisa Cropp) and he looks to be well weighted in what is not an overly strong Cup field."

Meanwhile Mythical steps up to a staying trip for the first time - "we are rolling the dice with her to try and chase black type," Moroney said, adding that "her Flemington run last start was very good."

Earlier in the day Jamelden's Dream resumes in the 1400m maiden.

"He is a staying horse," Moroney said of the lightly raced son of Dehere, "and we expect this to be too short for him. He will show his best at a mile and beyond."
