A Flashy performance

Rosemont Stud (pictured) looks to have a smart type in the shape of Flashy Fella, impressive maiden winner at Werribee on Sunday.

Having only his second run this preparation and his sixth overall, the good looking three-year-old was always travelling well for Lisa Cropp - having the 1400m event in his keeping a fair way from home.

Whilst the margin was a short one, Flashy Fella had plenty in hand, Cropp reporting that the chestnut still has a bit to learn.

"He is starting to put it all together," she said, adding that "I thought he was going to pick them up even easier than that but he hit a flat spot."

"But once he got going," she continued, "he got the line nicely."

Raced by Rosemont Stud's Anthony Mithen with Nigel Austin and Sam Curwood, Flashy Fella is a NZ $50,000 Karaka graduate by Thorn Park. A full brother to the stakes placed Mr Thorpedo, he is out of the unraced Volksraad mare Volkschine, full sister to the Listed winner Volksini from the family of the feature race winners Piachay, Eastern Joy and the Ballymore trained Pernod.

On course to enjoy the victory was Sam Curwood with his young sons - one decked out in Rosemont's red and white colours.

"Happy days!" Curwood enthused, adding that "it was a good win and the stable have done a great job with him."
