TEQUILA SHOWS SOME SPIRIT

Tequila Spirit got our season rolling breaking her maiden at Ballarat today, albeit at the expense of stablemate Poiema.

Jordan Childs was positive aboard Tequila Spirit who raced outside the lead to the home turn before asserting her authority, Poiema held up waiting for a run in behind before getting clear late for second.

Mike Moroney had been confident both would run well and so it proved.

“I thought it was a good result, especially as she relaxed and switched off outside the lead,” Mike said.

“I thought she won with a bit in hand and I still think she has scope for improvement, both physically and mentally.

“I’ll let the dust settle and go through the calendar before making plans but It is great to get the maiden out of the way and we should have more wins in store with her.

“I thought Poiema was terrific also and with a clearer run she might have pushed Tequila Spirit but it was still a positive result.

“She’s not overly big but her heart is in the right place and she tries hard and I’d say it should not be long before it is her turn to win.”
