SAME RACE RUNNERS TODAY

Two runners today on the synthetic track at Ballarat with Tequila Spirit and Poiema competing in the same race.

Both fillies are in the third race, the Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate over 1200 metres with Jordan Childs aboard Tequila Spirit and Blaike McDougall riding Poiema.

Tequila Spirit showed she is ready to break her maiden with a solid second place finish over 1200 metres on the Ballarat synthetic track last start and Mike Moroney is expecting another good showing.

“We’re really happy with her, she’s trained on nicely and is in good order,” Mike said.

“I thought her last run was good and she certainly is one who seems to like this track placing in her three starts on it.

“She’s bring some nice form into this race today and with ordinary luck I’m sure she will be competitive.”

Mike does not make a habit of running two in the same race however, conditions have forced his hand.

“Poiema is not at her best on soft ground and this race was the only option so we have to run really,” Mike said.

“She’s drawn barrier one and I’d be expecting her and tequila Spirit to be in the first three early on and on this particular track that appears to be the best place to be.

“I’ve added blinkers to her for today, she’s had them on for trackwork and seems improved but she’s not a flashy track worker.

“She’s nice and bright in herself and I’m expecting her to be in the finish.”
