SPRING GOALS FOR MILFORD

Milford continued the winning run for the stable going back-to-back at Caulfield on Saturday.

The last start Easter Cup winner was down in class but up in weight but it made no difference as under another terrific ride from Patrick Moloney, Milford struck the front early in the home straight and was then strongest to the line to win the Alex Butcher Memorial Trophy over 2000 metres.

Mike Moroney is now harbouring Spring ambitions for the son of Savabeel.

“I thought it was a really strong win and the horse is really starting to work things out,” Mike said.

“Now that he’s getting professional about the way he is racing it gives us plenty of options.

“I’ll put him away now and aim to get him ready for the spring - he’s still lightly raced and there is so much prize money available there will be plenty of races suitable for him and if he can maintain this rate of improvement than getting into one of the bigger races might not be beyond him.

“Either way he’s done a really good job this preparation and he can have a nice break now.”
