Town and Country for us today with Bermadez and Bankers Choice running at Flemington and Alburq heading to Wangaratta.

The exciting Bankers Choice (pictured) makes his Australian debut in the Group 3 Blamey Stakes over 1600m at Flemington where he will be partnered by Mark Zahra.

The last start Group 3 winner in New Zealand is extremely versatile and extremely talented.

“He’s settled in well and I’m happy with him,” Mike said. “The overnight rain will help him with some give in the track.

“He’s not suited by the weights which makes it tougher and he’s found a tough renewal of this race.

“He looks in good order, nice and bright and we’re looking forward to running. He’s an exciting horse with a few things against him today but I am really looking forward to seeing him perform.”

Bermadez starts a new preparation in the third race on the straight course over 1200 metres. Damien Oliver rides from the outside barrier in a field of nine.

“It’s a handy race but it will be interesting to see how he handles the straight,” Mike said. “The trip is on the short side for him but if it’s truly run then that will suit him.

“Whatever he does today he’ll improve on - he’s well and happy but if they do happen to run it hard then I’m sure he will be finishing strongly and be in the finish.”

Alburq runs in race five at Wangaratta over 1300 metres with Billy Egan aboard from barrier four.

“I’m happy with him, his work has been terrific and he just needs some luck in running,” Mike said.

“He’s drawn well and I’m really happy with him. He’s overdue a win and with ordinary luck I think he’s a great winning chance.”
