WEDNESDAY SANDOWN RUNNERS

Three runners for us on the Hillside course at Sandown today including the unbeaten Bermadez.

Bermadez (pictured) runs in race seven, the benchmark 70 handicap over 1400m where he will again be ridden by Damien Oliver and drawn wide in barrier 14.

Bermadez resumed with a strong win at Pakenham and has pleased Mike Moroney with his progress since.

“He’s got a couple of things against him like the barrier and the firmer track however, I do think our horse is the best in the race,” Moroney said.

“I think 1600 metres would suit him better but he looks terrific, Damien (Oliver) is not as concerned about the firmer track and all things being equal then I expect he is the horse they have to beat.”

Star Of Eden is the first to go in race three, the three-year-old fillies handicap over 1600m and she has some gear changes for today’s race.

“I’m really happy with here and she’s fitter for today,” Moroney said.

“I’ve taken the blinkers off her as it did not seem to help her and she’s down in class today from her last two races.

“If she can race better then I think she’s in a much more suitable race and she can be hard to beat.”

Chawinda runs in race four, the benchmark 64 handicap over 1000m where she will be ridden by Fred Kersley.

“She’s got a lovely draw today and we’ve added blinkers to sharpen her and help her concentration,” Moroney said.

“Ideally she will jump away on terms as I’d like to be able to ride her more forward. She’s worked well in them at home and I’m banking on them improving her performance today.”
