BALLYMORE YEARLINGS 2021

Training partners Mike Moroney and Pam Gerard have trained 101 winners, including 10 stakes winners, while Mike has prepared 52 Group One winners – an amazing career record.

With the help of international bloodstock agent Paul Moroney, they buy quality yearlings to fill the stables with nice horses to work with and provide you an opportunity to get involved.

Bay filly Pride of Dubai – Fantasize (Authorized)

She was purchased from the 2021 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale (Book 1, Lot 393) at Karaka.

By Australian leading Second Season Sire Pride of Dubai (Street Cry), who also the leading First Season Sire, and dual Group One winner of the Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).

His sire, high-class international stallion Street Cry (Machiavellian), is the sire of out and out champion Winx (37 wins, 25 Group One, and NZ$28.1 million) and Champion American racehorse Zenyatta (winner of 19 from 20).

The filly carries a bloodline cross of breed-shaping stallion Danehill (Danzig), as the dam-sire of Street Cry, and the dam-sire of Authorized (Montjeu).

Co-trainer Mike Moroney said: “A very good walking and moving filly that oozes speed and the type to be a very good chance of making the Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) race.”

She is currently being broken in.

Bay gelding Tivaci – Save The Stars (Savabeel)

He was purchased from the 2021 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale (Book 2, Lot 640) at Karaka.

From the first crop by Group One winning sprinter Tivaci (High Chaparral), trained by Mike Moroney, he in turn is by five-time Group One winner and sire of sires High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells), represented at stud by So You Think, Dundeel, Redwood, Wrote, Toronado, and the up-and-coming Contributer.

His dam, Save the Stars, is by six-time Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel), already an emerging broodmare sire, including Waikato Guineas (Gr. 2, 2000m) stable-mate Tokorangi (Redwood).

It really is a terrific family when you take into account the ability of Savvy Coup, Tootsie, Ocean Emperor, and Probabeel, all horses that, as their greatest attribute, have the ability to quicken at the business end of a race.

“He is very strong with plenty of natural muscle and on type we expect him to run as a two-year-old,” said Mike Moroney.

“We think he is one of our best chances to the lucrative Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m).”

He is currently being broken in.

Bay filly Wrote – Close To Me (Stravinsky)

She was purchased from the 2021 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale (Book 2, Lot 762) at Karaka.

By sire of sires High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells), Wrote won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (Gr. 1, 1600m) as a two-year-old in the U.S., sire of 41 runners, 21 winners, and now standing permanently in New Zealand, the filly is from his second crop yearlings.

Wrote is a sire with exceptional pedigree, highly rated (A+) as a physical specimen, and by an internationally acclaimed sire (High Chaparral, 130 stakes winners) that had so much success when bred with NZ mares.

The first foal from a mare by leading broodmare sire Stravinsky (Nureyev), she has a host of talented gallopers in the family, and carries a bloodline cross through her sire lines to immortal sire Northern Dancer.

“She is a big strong filly that looks like she could be an early type,” said Pam Gerard. “She is quite dominant around the paddock, nicely balanced mover, and has great walk.”

She is currently being broken in.

Bay colt War Decree – Colonel’s Daughter (Hinchinbrook)

He was purchased from the 2021 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale (Book 1, Lot 319) at Karaka.

From the first crop of War Decree, who, from three starts as a two-year-old, finished first and second in Group Two 1400-metre races in the UK. At three, he showed his versatility winning a Group Three 2000 metres.

War Decree is by sire of sires War Front (Danzig), who has been bracketed with siring stars Storm Cat and Tapit as a sire that is leaving top stallions. He is the sire of US Navy Flag, Declaration of War, Air Force Blue, The Factor, and quite a few others doing the job.

The dam side of family holds particular appeal. His third dam, Fleur de Chine (Centaine), is renowned for passing on her racing qualities and class, to the extent that within her direct progeny there have been 12 individual winners of 38 races and over $2m prize money.
It has a family that has left plenty of Group One winners and also stallions.

Dam sire Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock), an ill-fated stallion when his oldest progeny were six, was crowned Australian Champion First Season Sire. He is a three-quarter brother to four-time Champion Sire Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice).

Co-trainer Pam Gerard said: “He is a grouse moving horse and has a great walk, trot, and canter, on him. He has a fantastic nature and very willing in his work. He has come into the stables and done everything asked of him.”
