EMISSARY ARRIVES AT FLEMINGTON

The promising English performer Emissary was added to the team with his purchase at auction in October and the entire is now in Australia and striding around Flemington.

The three-year-old son of Kingman is settling in to his new surroundings nicely according to Mike Moroney.

“He seems to have settled straight into it here which is pleasing,” Moroney said.

“We have had a fair bit of experience with imports now and we like to give them a feel of the new stable environment and systems straight out of quarantine and this horse is very settled and cantering around as if he has been here all his life.”

Emissary was lightly raced in England where he was trained by Hugo Palmer, winning two of his five starts and a neck second at Listed level over 11 furlongs at Goodwood.

His only unplaced effort was in the Derby at Epsom where he was slowly away and struggled around the tricky Epsom course.

“The horse that just beat him at Goodwood finished second in the Derby and at his last start on a flat track at York Emissary was impressive winning over eleven and a half furlongs making all the running and it was that win that gave us confidence he had a future here,” Moroney said.

“We are not putting any pressure on him at this stage but he’s settled in well so we will press on with him and see where he takes us - if we can get him to the races we will give him the sort of light preparation we gave Aktau but there is no rush.

“He’s a lovely horse to be around and he has coped with the trip out in good order so we'll take our way quietly with him but on what I have seen of him so far I am particularly pleased to have him in our team.”
