CHAPADA WINS HIS WAY INTO THE CAULFIELD CUP

Chapada raced his way into the Caulfield Cup field with a dominant win in Saturday’s Group 3 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) at Caulfield.

Daniel Stackhouse had to be patient to secure clear running on Chapada after travelling smoothly along the inside to the 600m in a slowly run race but once he found running room Chapada accelerated into the lead and drew away over the concluding stages.

At the line Chapada had 1-1/4 lengths to spare over Zebrowski and Mike Moroney said he felt the five-year-old had deserved a feature race success.

"I think the horse does deserve that, he was very unlucky in Group 1 races before as a three-year-old," Moroney said.

"We lost his four-year-old year, but he seems to have come back a lot stronger now.

"From the time he arrived in the stable he always had a bit of presence about him, he's a lovely horse.

"He's one of those horses that when you watch him work, he has one of those actions that you can watch all day - a real rocking-horse action and a beautiful temperament.

“It’s terrific to get him into the Caulfield Cup and exciting for his owners, of which I am one, and the whole stable.”
