SHE'S A THIEF LOOKING TO STEAL A GROUP WIN AT CAULFIELD

Two runners bookend the card for us on a Group 1 day at Caulfield.

Mirimar is the first to go in race one, the Open Handicap over 2400m with Michael Poy and only four rivals after scratchings.

Mirimar finished unplaced last time out however, Mike Moroney is confident of a forward showing.

“He can perform on a firmer surface and we’re happy with him after a couple of mediocre efforts for him,” Moroney said.

“His gallop on Tuesday was excellent and I’m extremely happy with his condition.

“Although it is now only a five horse field there do look a couple that like to go forward - including us - so it’s likely to be a tactical affair.

“He’ll need to be at his best to be winning this but he’s going well and I’m confident he can figure in the finish.”

She’s A Thief (pictured) runs in the last race, the Group 3 Cockram Stakes over 1200m with Daniel Stackhouse again in the saddle from barrier two.

The daughter of Showcasing is racing consistently and is holding her condition well.

“She’s trained on well, I’ve concentrated on keeping her happy, she’s extremely fit so we haven’t done too much with her,” Moroney said.

“I just hope she can fly the gates and make her fitness tell.

“She’s as well as we can get her, obviously it’s a strong race but she’s under-rated in my opinion and I think she’s a great chance.”
