WINNING CHANCES ON THE LAKESIDE COURSE TODAY

Paxos Miss, Meteor Light and Miss Hayworth are our representatives on the Lakeside course at Sandown today.

Paxos Miss runs in race one, the 2YO Fillies Plate over 1200m with Billy Egan riding from barrier two.

The Wandjina filly has pleased Mike Moroney since her excellent fourth on debut at Sale a month ago.

“Her work has been excellent, she’s trained on well, has definitely improved and we’re very happy with her,” Moroney said.

“Ideally she can cope with ground - it will be a tough test 1200m on a heavy track for sure but if she can just find a spot, get balanced and finish off then she is definitely in with a chance.”

Meteor Light (pictured) runs in race five, the Benchmark 78 Handicap over 2400m, jumping from barrier eight under Michael Poy who reduces his weight to 55kg.

“He’ll be suited by the ground for sure and we meet Converging and Yulong Captain on better weight terms today from the last race,” Moroney said.

“It looks a similar sort of race as his last start where he ran so well and we’re hoping he can get a soft run on the speed.

“He’s getting fitter and fitter and he gets conditions to suit so I think he’s a really good chance.”

Miss Hayworth runs in race seven, the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1200m with Jake Noonan to ride from barrier 10.

“She’s drawn out and I pondered on running but when I looked at it there doesn’t look a lot of early speed in the race,” Moroney said.

“Her work has been good and she’s fit enough so if she can get across without having to do too much then I think she can be hard to beat.”
