FIVE SUNDAY RUNNERS

A busy day for us at Ballarat on Sunday with five runners.

Themagicneverends is the first to go in race one, the Maiden Plate over 1500m with Michael Dee riding.

It is the second race this preparation for Themagicneverends and Mike Moroney said should be suited by the heavy (8) track.

“I think he’s looking for a track with some give in it so he’ll find that today,” Moroney said.

“He’s fitter now and this looks a nice race for him so all things being equal he should be in the finish.”

Thunder Peak makes her debut in race two, the 2YO Fillies Maiden Plate over 1100m with Michael Dee to ride in a field reduced to seven six rivals.

“She had a jumpout at Flemington on a soft track and she handled that well,” Moroney said.

“She’s developed nicely and handled everything well. She’s been professional all the way through and shown us some nice ability.

“It’s always hard to assess the opposition in these races but provided she handles the heavy ground, I’m sure she will run very well.”

Miss Hayworth is in race three, the Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate over 1100m and with Jake Noonan in the saddle.

“She placed last start on a soft track at Sale so we’re willing to let her take her chance on the heavy track,” Moroney said.

“It’s a solid looking race but our filly has improved. She’ll need a bit of luck from the draw but they only make one turn so I’m thinking she will run a good race.”

Bellows is in race four, the 3YO Maiden Plate over 1200m with Jordan Childs to ride.

“He’s drawn nicely in barrier four after the scratchings, the one query with him will be his ability in the heavy ground,” Moroney said.

“He’s trained on well and looks terrific. It’s a handy looking race but if he handles the ground then I’m expecting him to run very well.”

Last start Sandown winner Quail Hollow (pictured) rounds out our day in race six, the benchmark 64 handicap over 1400m and with Jordan Childs riding.

“Ideally the track will have improved a bit by the time he runs,” Moroney said.

“He’s trialled on a soft track at Flemington and he handled it well so I’m happy to run him today.

“I think he’s the best horse in the race and if he handles the going then I think he’s a great winning chance.”
