OUR WINNING RUN CONTINUES

Another winning day for the stable on Thursday with a double thanks to Spanish Peaks and Whittington Stone.

Spanish Peaks was racing first-up this preparation at Geelong on a heavy track and held out Dihhi to win the Maiden Plate over 1335m.

“The thing I was pleased about was that he relaxed in the race and then even though he was getting tired towards the finish he stuck his head out and tried,” Mike Moroney said.

“He’s a horse we’ve always had a bit of time for but his previous two starts he was busy skylarking about and not concentrating so to see him focussed there was excellent.

“It’s great to get that maiden win out of the way so we’ll just see how he is before making any plans - we also learned he can cope with a heavy (10) track so that’s another positive.”

Whittington Stone (pictured) brought up the double with a fighting win in atrocious conditions at Pakenham.

Jake Noonan rated the horse perfectly in front and despite being challenged on both sides in the home straight stayed on resolutely to beat the favourite Hasseltoff to win the 3YO Maiden Plate over 1400m.

Mike Moroney said he felt the win was well deserved.

“I though he was owed that after two good placings at Sandown,” Moroney said.

“He got a great ride from Jake but the horse really did his bit to stick his head out and fight them off in the driving rain and testing ground.

“We’ll see how he pulls up but I think he’ll go on with it now - the form around his Sandown races is standing up and I though the horse showed a lot of grit to win here.”
