AKTAU BACK TO THE RACES ON SATURDAY

Aktau and Opoho Dreaming are our runners at separate venues on Saturday.

Aktau (pictured) runs in race one at Caulfield, the Keno Classic Handicap over 2000m with Jye McNeil in the saddle from barrier one.

The import was beaten half a length last time out when third behind Just Benjamin over 1800m at Caulfield and has done well since.

“He’s progressed again and his work on Tuesday was terrific,” Mike Moroney said. “His fitness levels are good and the little weight turn around with Just Benjamin will help.

“He’s out in trip which will suit and the way he’s come on with a bit more practice is most pleasing so with ordinary luck from the inside draw I do think he’s a great winning chance.”

Opoho Dreaming runs in race two at Yarra Valley, the 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate over 1500m with Jake Noonan riding from barrier 10.

The Tavistock filly made ground in the home straight to finish third on debut over 1400m at Pakenham and has pleased Moroney since.

“I thought the first run was solid and she has done well since,” Moroney said.

“She gets out over a bit further in a field that does not look to have a huge amount of form - she has drawn out which is not ideal but with natural improvement and the progression she has made I expect her to run well.”
