TWO NICE CHANCES FOR US AT BENDIGO

Laybuy on debut and The Delphi represent us at Bendigo’s metropoloitan status meeting today.

Laybuy runs in race one, the Maiden Plate over 1300m with Michael Dee to ride from barrier six in a field of 11.

It is the first race start for the son of Savabeel who has been given time to learn his craft by Mike Moroney.

“He just keeps improving which is pleasing - he’s taken a little while to work it all out but he’s ready to go the races and this is a good track to get him started at,” Moroney said.

“I'm happy with the way he is progressing but he strikes me as a horse who will need a bit further than today.

“He’s found a strong enough race which you expect at this time of year but with ordinary luck in the run I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t run well.”

The Delphi (pictured) runs in race three, the Benchmark 70 Handicap over 2400m with Teodore Nugent in the saddle.

It will be the third start this preparation for The Delphi, who finished third over 1800m at Caulfield last start on September 21.

“The claim will certainly help in what looks an even race, despite the small field, that has three last start winners.” Moroney said.

“He’s worked well since his last start and he’s out to his preferred distance today.

He jumps from barrier five in a field of six after scratchings and provided it does not turn into a tactical affair I’m expecting him to be hard to beat.”
