SPIRIT LEGEND DEBUTS AT ECHUCA

Two runners for us at Echuca today including Spirit Legend on debut.

Spirit Legend runs in race three, the Maiden Plate over 1600m with Jake Noonan riding from the outside barrier 10.

The draw is not ideal however, Mike Moroney is keen to get the son of Tavistock started.

“We decided to run as we wanted to get him started as he’ll be looking for distance,” Moroney said.

“I’d say we’ll go back from the draw, give him a chance to balance up and then look to run home. The experience will be good for home as we look to get him out over further.

“He hasn’t shown us a huge amount of zip so far but once he gets out to a trip then that will be his chance.”

Real Gent (pictured) is our other runner in race eight, the Benchmark 64 Handicap over 1400m with Harry Grace reducing the weight to 58.5kg.

The import led most of the way to score over 1300m at Bendigo on July 14 and has pleased Moroney since.

“He won nicely last start and certainly hasn’t gone backwards,” Moroney said.

“It’s a handy enough race but the scratchings help and he’s drawn to get another nice run.

“He’s trained on well, the conditions will suit and I’m expecting him to run well again.”
