NIGHT ACTION AT CRANBOURNE

Night runners for us on Friday with Play That Song and The Boy Wonder racing at Cranbourne.

Play That Song (pictured) is the first to go in race five, the Sky Heights Stayers series heat 1 benchmark70 handicap over 2060m.

It is the third start this preparation for the daughter of Star Missile and Mike Moroney suggests there are some important factors in her favour tonight.

“She’s stepping up in trip and she has a couple of things in her favour,” Moroney said. “It’s not a big field and she usually gets back so that should sort any traffic problems and there looks plenty of speed in the race which will suit her.

“Her work has been excellent and she looks terrific so with things in her favour then she should certainly run a better race.”

The Boy Wonder is in race seven, another heat of the Sky Heights Stayers series heat 2 at benchmark 64 level over 2580m.

The four-year-old finished fourth at Bendigo over 2200m at his Australian debut on April 2 and has pleased Moroney since.

“He’s suggested to us he’s looking for the step up in distance,” Moroney said. “He’s settled into Flemington really well and his work on Tuesday was excellent.

“I’d just be a little concerned about the speed map as there does not appear to be much pace in the race but we can’t fault him going into the race and if he can get things to suit then I think he’s good enough to win.
