ARRAN RULES AT BENALLA

He’s still learning but Prince Of Arran showed he is full of potential with victory at Benalla on Tuesday at just his second start.

Settled on speed by Patrick Moloney, Prince Of Arran took the lead into the home straight and then showed his greenness, wandering when clear in front.

Coutinho made some late ground but Prince Of Arran was always in control and win the Maiden Plate over 1606m by a long neck.

Prince Of Arran is the fifth winner from the last 11 starters for Ballymore Stables and Moloney said there were good points and not so good points about Prince Of Arran’s performance.

“Straightening up I was thinking it was a matter of ‘how far’ but then when he got to the front he didn’t really know how to attack the line,” Moloney said.

“He’s still got a lot to learn with his racing manners, he still wanted to do a few things wrong but he’ll learn a lot more from that win.”

Prince Of Arran was racing for the second time, having finished fourth on debut at Ballarat a fortnight ago.

“He’s been a bit of a handful at times and the team at home have done a terrific job with him,” Moloney said.

“His manners are improving all the time, today he was good and put himself in the race.

“He’s a nice horse going forward and he’s got potential.

“Mike has been patient with him and worked with him and I think he will just keep on improving.”

Prince Of Arran was purchased for $NZ200,000 as a yearling by Paul Moroney Bloodstock from the draft of Little Avondale Stud at the 2016 NZB Premier Sale at Karaka.
