Dornoch Answers Winning Call

An encouraging debut effort earlier in the month from three-year-old gelding, Dornoch, was vindicated on Monday when the son of Pins was able to hold off a late challenge in the final stages of the maiden event over 1450m.

Ridden by stable rider Patrick Moloney, Dornoch traveled kindly throughout and was able to put himself in a favourable position at the top of the home straight where he proved too tough to run down.

“It was a gallant effort and he fought them off nicely – I was actually quite taken with the effort,” trainer Mike Moroney said.

“He’s still not right in the coat and there’s a lot of improvement there.”

“To us he looks like a 1400m-1600m Autumn horse and we don’t think he’ll mind running on top of the ground either – he could be quite exciting.”

Purchased by Paul Moroney Bloodstock at the 2015 Karaka Yearling Sales, Dornoch completed his early education at our New Zealand stable before embarking on his Australian race career which certainly looks bright.
