But It's A Win!

Whilst it was a strong winning performance by the promising But It's True at Sale on Tuesday, it is undecided at this stage whether or not the three-year-old will press on to interstate carnivals or head to the paddock.

A hot odds-on favourite having run so well in the Mornington Guineas at his previous start, the son of High Chaparral enjoyed a nice trail behind the speed, creeping closer before the bend and looming up strongly turning.

Looking to have the race in his keeping, But It's True did have to fight to claim the race, the runner-up Hell On Earth kicking strongly once challenged.

But It's True got his nose out where it counted however and being lightly raced he still has considerable upside.

"He is a very promising horse," Michael Moroney said, admitting that he did expect But It's True to win more easily.

"It was a tradesmanlike victory and he is actually a long way better than that. He has been up a while so it may be that his preparation is coming to an end but we will see how he pulls up."

Jockey Jamie Mott, who has been aboard But It's True at each of his three starts, is confident that the young horse will be all the better as he matures.

"I thought he was going to win easily but the other horse made us fight for it," he said.

"But he is showing nice promise and the further he goes the better he will be."

Raced by the Payne family, But It's True is a son of the dual stakes winning Align mare Pennacchio.

There is plenty of confidence at the stable that our winning run can continue through the week with Ballymore represented by three very nice chances in Sydney and Melbourne on Wednesday.

Having her first run since the spring, Not A Single Doubt filly Sound Works resumes over 1200m at Canterbury and we are looking for a bold showing from her.

"She had a slight set back (a temperature) since easily winning a trial but she has been working really well and we think she is a good winning chance," Moroney said.

Meanwhile we have two strong contenders at the Sandown meeting, kicking off with topweight Loyalty Man in the Ladbrokes Handicap.

"He has trained on really well since his last win at Sandown and we think the penny is finally starting to drop with him."

"He had a few tricks as a colt and it took a while for him to mature. He looked like he was going to win quite easily last start but he just wanted to pull up a bit when he hit the front. But the signs have been there at track work that he is starting to figure it all out and he should again prove hard to beat."

Lining up in the following race, the Polytrack Handicap, is the promising filly Vandancer who steps up to 2100m having done her best work late over a mile last time out.

"I am sounding like a broken record but she is a top chance as well," Moroney enthused.

"She is a really nice staying filly in the making and from a good draw with Glen Boss aboard she looks a top winning chance."

And we have yet another leading prospect at the Wangaratta meeting on Thursday with Timeless Grace a big hope in the 1400m maiden with Jordan Childs to ride.

"She ran really well first up (third at Bendigo) where a lack of fitness just told late. But she has progressed really well since and she is an improving type."
