Kyneton Cup & Oaks Day

It's a couple of busy days for the stable with multiple runners on Kyneton Cup Day and at Flemington on Oaks Day.

Kicking off our Wednesday is the lightly raced Cape Londonderry who takes his place in the 1850m maiden with Jake Noonan to ride from barrier one.

A son of the Melbourne Cup winner Pride Of Penzance's sire Pentire, the lightly raced three-year-old has not shown a great deal at his first couple of starts but he has started to figure things out.

"He has really improved and we are starting to warm to him," said Michael Moroney who has always been willing to give the Pentire breed time.

Another staying type racing at Kyneton is Deckhand who competes in the final event, a 1450m BM70 event with James Winks to ride.

Having his first run in a year, off the scene since February after having had an operation to remove bone chips, he has been "a different horse this time."

"We have been really pleased with him and he should run well fresh from a good barrier."

We have two very nice three-year-olds contesting the same race at Flemington on Thursday, the Listed TCL Stakes.

Unfortunately both War Legend (pictured) and Loyalty Man have drawn out wide but they have the services of Craig Newitt and Jake Noonan.

Finishing off strongly over a mile at Caulfield last time out, War Legend was inclined to over-race a bit early so his effort that day was very good.

"He is going well," Moroney said, " we just hope that from that gate he can relax a bit better early."

"We have always had a lot of time for him but he is still a big overgrown baby!"

Loyalty Man was impressive racing away to an easy maiden victory at Bendigo last month and he has progressed well since - "it's just a pity he didn't draw a better gate as he is going very well."

A couple of races later we have In Style contesting the Gr.3 G.H Mumm Stakes with Steven Arnold to ride.

Second last but far from disgraced after blowing the start and ending up in the worst part of the track when resuming at Caulfield, the Group One Railway Stakes winner has fared well since.

"That run was very good considering, she did well to finish as close as she did. Providing she jumps away she should prove pretty hard to beat this time."
