Marwood to Moonee Valley

Saturday is a quiet one for the stable with just the one runner representing us at Moonee Valley, the talented Marwood taking his place in the ninth event, the Port Melbourne Handicap.

Having missed out on a run as emergency last Saturday, the four-year-old has had a bit of a break since his latest runs in Sydney where Michael Moroney admits "he was a bit disappointing."

"But he has freshened up nicely and we are just hoping that it is a matter of getting back to the Melbourne way of going."

"The question mark with him is probably how he is going to get around Moonee Valley as it is his first run there - but he is proven at the trip and he has drawn well for Steven Arnold."

Sunday is a busier day for us with three runners at Bendigo, kicking off with Simply Explosive in the sixth race, the Caltex Maiden Plate over 2300m.

Twice placed from his last three starts, the Pins three-year-old looks suited up in distance with Moroney noting that "he is a bit of a one-paced horse who races as though he is a dead-set stayer."

Overdue a maiden win, Simply Explosive will be ridden by Steven Arnold who also takes the ride on Suspicious Minds in the Sportsbet Mobile Handicap.

"She is a very good winning chance," Moroney enthused, recalling that the four-year-old was most unlucky when unplaced at Sale last time out.

"She was travelling as though she was going to be right in the finish but she just didn't get a run at them."

"She has drawn out a bit but with in luck in running she should prove hard to beat."

Meanwhile imported galloper Mr Impatience is stepping up to 3000m in the Hygain Handicap with Anthony Boyd to take a 3kg claim.

"He is as fit as we can get him," Moroney said, hopeful of improvement from the Hernando gelding who has not been displaying a turn of foot over shorter trips.
