Anzac Day Action

Anzac Day sees quality racing around the country and we are looking forward to saddling up some nice horses in Victoria and New South Wales.

Kicking off our Saturday is Suspicious Minds who kicks off her autumn/winter campaign in the William Newton VC Handicap, the third race on a strong Flemington card.

Having her first run since late February, the consistent four-year-old is suited fresh at 1600m and from a good gate - barrier four - we are hoping for a bold showing.

"We are getting her ready for some black-type races in Adelaide," Michael Moroney said, "and this looks a nice pipe-opener for her."

"She went very well in a recent jump-out and with the light weight (54kg) she can prove competitive - and any amount of rain would help her."

The second of our Flemington duo, Saint Or Sinner, lines up in the seventh race, the Flt Lt Peter Armytage Handicap.

Sound when sixth in the Gr.3 Victoria Handicap over 1400m last time out, the St Reims five-year-old looks nicely placed down in class - the biggest concern his outside barrier draw.

"It is a tricky gate as he is a horse who needs cover," said Moroney.

"But with luck in running he will prove hard to beat, he is going really well."

The talented Marwood (pictured) was impressive saluting first up at Warrnambool late last month and he has been working well the Sydney way of going in preparation for Saturday's Australian Flying Corps Handicap at Randwick.

At this stage the meeting looks safe and Sydney's recent downfalls ensure a heavy track - something Moroney is very happy about, noting Marwood's record of two wins from two starts on heavy ground.

"The rain is really going to help him. 1000m is not really his go but in such demanding going it is going to be more like an 1100m/1200m race which will suit him."

"He has been pleasing us and we expect him to run another great race."

Sunday is Pakenham Cup Day and we have Space lining up in one of the day's features, the David Bourke Memorial over 2500m.

A horse who has shown improvement at his last couple of outings, Space did not have much go right when sixth over 2400m at Bendigo last start.

"He was pretty unlucky," Moroney rued, "he was making his run when the gap close."

"We have been very happy with him since and it looks a winnable race for him."
